In the late 1860, southern secessionists debated two strategies: unlateral secession by each state or "cooperative" secession
by the south as a whole. The Cooperationiats lost the debate.

between Lincoln's election and inauguration. this would of extended the Missouri Compromise line west to the pacific.

Emancipation Proclamation-
|
On January 1,1863, President Lincoln Prolclaimed that the slaves of the Confederacy were free. Since the south had not
yet been defeated, the proclamation did not immdiatley free anyone, but it made emancipation an explict war aim of the north.
